Perennial Vegetables by Eric Toensmeier

We practice Permaculture methods of no-till farming using a high input of rich, organic matter.  We never spray chemicals or use synthetic fertilizers.  We build soil and aim to create a closed-loop system that is sustainable.  This includes composting, the use of rain water harvesting, and the recycling of materials.

We work with nature, rather than against it.

With the utmost care to the land, we are creating edible food forests, rich with layers and layers of delicious food.  This method mimics the ecology of natural forests, sequesters carbon, and creates integrated living systems for all sorts of plants and wildlife.

We are putting in more and more perennial plants that provide lots of food with minimal work.

We love to cook, and we are constantly growing new plants and discovering new vegetables and varieties, as well as creating recipes and making products from our plants.  We are especially interested in healthy food.

We collect wild and cultivated herbs and create herbal medicine.

We care about the beauty of our farm.  We strive to involve an artistic perspective into our planning, and we aim to understand nature more thoroughly through studying and drawing.
